XI. Serpentine Nouveau (2024)

School Project

Serpentine Nouveau is a characterful display font that balances simplicity and complexity through the interplay of curves and edges. Drawing inspiration from the double pen technique, festive streamers, and Art Nouveau fine jewelry, the font offers a unique blend of structure and fluidity. The design is showcased on three specimens—silver glitter paper, bookbinding paper, and linen sheets—demonstrating its versatility in both display use and its interaction with tactile surfaces. The font conveys a handwritten, playful quality, with forms that are both strict and organic.

The work began with preliminary sketches and was completed in Glyphs, with the specimens laid out in InDesign to highlight the font's visual versatility.

Specimens with red type, printed on sheets of linen, silver glitter paper and bookbinding paper, respectively.
